About the position

Carta is the connected platform and AI-native ecosystem for private capital. Built to replace fragmented tools with a single system of record, Carta brings together the software, services, and legal infrastructure that founders use to manage equity, fund managers use to run administration and reporting, and legal teams use to close transactions. Recognized by Fortune, Forbes, Fast Company, Inc. and Great Places to Work. You'll be joining our Inbound Compliance team. This team sits at the front line of Carta's compliance function — managing the intake and resolution of KYC requests on behalf of some of the world's leading asset managers and private equity firms. You'll work in a high-volume, client-facing environment where accuracy, speed, and regulatory fluency aren't optional — they're the baseline. At Carta, our employees set out on a mission to unlock the power of equity ownership for more people in more places. We believe that the problems we solve today unlock the opportunities of tomorrow.

Responsibilities

  • Own the KYC request lifecycle. Manage the intake, processing, and timely resolution of inbound KYC requests from clients and their counterparties, ensuring nothing falls through the cracks and every response meets the standard.
  • Be the client's compliance guide. Serve as the primary point of contact for KYC inquiries, giving clients clear, confident answers on global KYC requirements so they can move their transactions forward.
  • Uphold the regulatory bar. Review and validate KYC documentation for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with AML, KYC, and applicable international frameworks, and make the call when something doesn't pass muster.
  • Keep records airtight. Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of all KYC requests and documentation in Carta's systems, so the team always has a clean audit trail.
  • Stay ahead of a moving target. Monitor evolving KYC/AML regulations globally and apply updated requirements to daily work, ensuring Carta's compliance posture keeps pace with regulatory change.

Requirements

  • 1 to 2+ years of compliance experience.
  • A working understanding of global KYC and AML frameworks and can apply them practically, not just cite them.
  • A proactive decision-maker. You don't wait to be told what to do. You assess the situation, apply the right framework, and move forward with minimal supervision.
  • A communicator people trust. You write clearly, speak with confidence, and bring the same professionalism to client-facing correspondence as you do to internal work.
  • Able to manage a full plate. You handle multiple priorities simultaneously without dropping the ball, and you stay composed under tight deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Building toward a compliance career. You have a genuine interest in AML/CFT compliance and legal services and you're looking for a place to grow, not just a job to fill.

Nice-to-haves

  • Detail-oriented under pressure. You catch what others miss and you do it consistently, even when managing a high volume of concurrent requests against tight deadlines.
  • Confident and client-ready. You enjoy client KYC conversations with senior stakeholders and counterparties, assertive, professional, and knowing when to escalate versus when to resolve.
  • Experienced in complex legal entities. Prior exposure to corporate banking, a legal service provider, or a fund compliance environment is a strong plus, particularly familiarity with offshore jurisdictions like Cayman or Luxembourg.
  • Some legal or compliance exposure is a plus. Prior experience in a legal, compliance, or risk management environment is welcome but not required.
  • Experience with AI in practice. You've worked with AI tools or technology-driven workflows before and know how to apply them in real-world settings.
  • Prior experience in financial or legal services. A background at a law firm, legal services provider, fund administrator, or the compliance or legal department of a financial institution or asset manager will set you up well.
  • Familiarity with KYC documentation. Experience reviewing or preparing KYC documentation packs, AML comfort letters, or UBO declarations is a meaningful advantage.
  • Knowledge of private markets structures. Familiarity with fund formations, GP/LP relationships, and offshore holding structures including Luxembourg is a strong plus.
  • Regulatory framework exposure. Any prior exposure to EU (including CSSF and AMLD requirements), UK (FCA), or US (FinCEN) AML/CFT frameworks will translate directly to this role.
  • A degree in law, compliance, finance, or a related subject area, or a diploma in paralegal studies.
  • Professional certifications such as ICA Certificate in AML or ACAMS are a plus but not required.

Benefits

  • equity for all full time roles
  • exceptional benefits
  • commissions plans (for applicable roles)

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
