Let’s define tomorrow, together.<br><br><strong>Description<br><br></strong>The Lead Ramp Service Employee performs the same duties as a Ramp Service Employee. They will provide work leadership and direction to an assigned crew and will be required to give on-the-job instruction and training.<br><br>The Ramp Service Employee (RSE) is responsible for processing baggage, boxes, and/or cargo between baggage/cargo areas in the airport facilities and aircraft, as well as receiving and dispatching aircraft. We pride ourselves on being an on-time airline and are seeking dedicated individuals that understand a fast-paced environment while maintaining high-quality standards of operational safety and customer service.<br><br>Job overview & responsibilities include but may not be limited to:<br><br><ul><li>Lift baggage, boxes, or cargo weighing up to 70lbs. when loading/unloading aircraft, carts, and containers</li><li>Loading/unloading may require lifting over 100 items for a single aircraft</li><li>Push/pull loaded and empty carts and containers during loading/unloading operations</li><li>Couple/uncouple carts and/or cargo container dollies</li><li>Ascend/descend jet-way stairs while carrying baggage</li><li>Bend/stoop and crawl to move and stack/unstack cargo in aircraft and containers</li><li>Stand for up to 4 hours in all weather conditions to upload or unload cargo and direct traffic</li><li>Walk continuously to load/ unload cargo from pallets, containers, carts, or conveyor belts</li><li>Complete safety checklists for motorized equipment</li><li>Drive and operate motorized equipment (e.g., conveyor belt)</li><li>Read and interpret aircraft load sheets, checked baggage tags, and cargo labels</li><li>Operate a computer to enter and retrieve data</li><li>Count baggage/cargo being uploaded/ unloaded during operations</li><li>Operate portable radio or headphones</li><li>Connect hoses to aircraft</li><li>Use signaling devices to communicate with co-workers or f light crew</li><li>Ensure compliance with United and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and policies</li><li>Other duties as assigned</li><li>Must have leadership experience in an airport operations environment<br><br></li></ul><strong>Qualifications<br><br></strong>What You Need to Succeed (Minimum Requirements):<br><br><ul><li>At least 18 years old</li><li>High school diploma, GED, or equivalent</li><li>Comfortable with computers, mobile devices, and new technologies</li><li>Able to stand, walk, and handle baggage for an eight-hour shift</li><li>Able to read, write and speak English fluently</li><li>Ability to communicate with other departments and flight crews</li><li>Must possess a valid state-issued driver’s license, with a good driving record</li><li>Must be eligible to acquire and maintain credentials vital for the position</li><li>Must pass a background check</li><li>Must pass a pre-placement physical ability test, hearing and vision tests, and drug screen</li><li>Position-specific clearances include but are not limited to FAA, TSA, Port Authority, U.S. Customs and U.S. Postal Service clearances</li><li>Available during day and night shifts, weekends, and holidays</li><li>When necessary, based on the needs of the operation, you will be required to work mandatory overtime</li><li>Able to perform a variety of physical activities including bending, stooping, climbing, and working in tight spaces, including lifting up to 70lbs</li><li>Ability to obtain required training certifications, perform safety checks, and successfully complete all required job functions, including but not limited to operating and driving equipment, loading and unloading baggage and cargo, interpreting load sheets, baggage tags, and cargo labels</li><li>Work outdoors in all temperatures and weather conditions</li><li>Must be legally authorized to work in the United States for any employer without sponsorship</li><li>Work where there will be exposure to high noise levels</li><li>Must NOT have lived outside of the United States in the past 3 years for any period longer than six months, except for military duty or government-approved exceptions</li><li>Successful completion of interview and assessment required to meet job qualifications</li><li>Reliable, punctual attendance is a crucial function of the position</li><li>Ability to meet our uniform, and appearance standards</li><li>Must be willing and able to work 100% on-site<br><br></li></ul>The starting rate for this role is $24.25.<br><br>This is also a bonus eligible position (i.e. profit sharing).<br><br>We offer competitive benefits: medical, dental, vision, life, accident & disability, employee assistance program, commuter, paid holidays, paid time off, 401(k), pension and flight privileges (subject to the respective collective bargaining agreement).<br><br>United Airlines is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
