About OpenLoop

OpenLoop was co-founded by CEO, Dr. Jon Lensing, and COO, Christian Williams, with the vision to bring care anywhere. Our telehealth support solutions are thoughtfully designed to streamline and simplify go-to-market care delivery for companies offering meaningful virtual support to patients across an expansive array of specialties, in all 50 states.

About the Role

As a Senior Product Designer, Design Systems at OpenLoop Health, you'll build the shared foundation that every OpenLoop product is designed and built on. That includes patient- and client-facing experiences, AI agents and copilots, and the operational platforms our teams use every day.

This role is for a systems designer who also understands AI. More of our UI is now generated by AI tools like Claude, Claude Code, and Figma Make, and those tools are only as good as the system they draw from. You don't just maintain a component library. You design tokens, components, and documentation that people and AI tools can both use correctly, and you write the skills and agent instructions that teach AI how to build with the system, so the right patterns show up by default.

You'll work closely with Product Designers, Engineers, and Product Managers across several product teams to set standards, not just document them.

What You'll Do

  • Lead the design system end to end, from audit and roadmap through component design, documentation, release, and adoption

  • Define and maintain a tiered token system (primitive, semantic, component) for color, type, spacing, elevation, and motion, including theming across the many client brands our White-Label platform supports

  • Automate how tokens flow from Figma variables into code (e.g., Style Dictionary) so design and code stay in sync without manual handoff

  • Build and maintain documentation that works like a product, with live examples, code snippets, and dos and don'ts, plus the AI skills and agent instructions that let designers, engineers, and AI agents apply the system correctly

  • Make the system readable by AI agents through MCP servers, llms.txt-style docs, and component metadata, so agents build with the right components by default

  • Prototype and test components in code using tools like Storybook, v0, Claude, or Claude Code to validate behavior against real implementation, not static mockups

  • Define how components handle states, errors, edge cases, empty data, and accessibility, especially in clinical and operational workflows

  • Partner with Engineers on quality: set acceptance criteria for components, review implementations, and use AI agents to catch drift between design and code

  • Build patterns for AI interactions, such as conversational UI, agent status, confidence, and human handoff, and add them to the system

  • Design patterns for data-dense product UI, including tables, filters, bulk actions, complex forms, and charts, that stay fast to use and easy to scan in our CRM and operational platforms

  • Set the bar for craft across the system, including motion principles, interaction details, typography, and density

  • Measure adoption and help product teams across client-facing experiences and internal tools (e.g., CRM, operational platforms) use the system well

Who You Are

  • Five or more years of product design experience, including at least two years focused on design systems used by multiple teams

  • Deep working knowledge of how design systems scale: tiered tokens and token pipelines, theming, component APIs, versioning, and governance

  • Experienced writing AI skills, agent instructions, or documentation that changed how people and tools actually built with a system, and able to show examples

  • Comfortable in code and the terminal: reads HTML, CSS, and React, works in Storybook, and runs AI agents like Claude Code from a terminal (e.g., Ghostty) to build and test functional prototypes

  • Strong systems thinker who can bring consistency to complex, interconnected products without slowing teams down

  • Sharp product judgment: knows when to standardize, when to allow exceptions, and how to tie system decisions to user and business impact

  • Holds a high bar for accessibility, with working knowledge of WCAG 2.1 AA; healthcare or other regulated-industry experience is a plus

  • Highly collaborative with designers, engineers, and PMs; builds adoption through influence, not mandates

  • Proactive and self-directed; moves work forward without waiting for perfect requirements

  • Strong visual and interaction craft, with a sharp eye for motion, typography, and density; expert in Figma, including variables, modes, component properties, and library management

  • Portfolio shows design system work, including how you structured tokens and components, designed for data-dense product UI, drove adoption, and measured impact

Our Benefits

In addition, for salaried positions you would also be eligible for:

  • Medical, Dental, and Vision plans

  • Flexible Spending/Health Savings Accounts

  • Flexible PTO

  • 401(k) + Company Match

  • Life Insurance, Pet insurance, and more

Our Company

We have a relatively flat organizational structure here at OpenLoop. Everyone is encouraged to bring ideas to the table and make things happen. This fits in well with our core values of Autonomy, Competence and Belonging, as we want everyone to feel empowered and supported to do their best work.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

The day I watched Marie Forleo's film separating the important from the urgent, my life changed. Not all remote jobs start fast, but most of them are...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
