Squarespace Website Developer & Security Specialist — Long-Term Opportunity

I am seeking an experienced Squarespace website developer with technical security knowledge to review, improve, and continue developing an existing website for an independent publishing business.

This is an ongoing project, not a new website build.

The website already exists, and substantial design work has been completed. I am looking for a reliable professional who can preserve the existing work, review the website’s technical configuration, complete the remaining development, and provide ongoing support as the business grows.

Phase 1: Website Security & Technical Review

My first priority is reviewing the existing Squarespace website to ensure everything is properly configured.

This includes:

* Website permissions, contributor access, and account security

* Domain settings, DNS records, and SSL configuration

* Redirects, URL mappings, and external connections

* Custom code, scripts, tracking tools, and third-party integrations

* Website visibility, search engine indexing, and privacy settings

* Identifying unfamiliar or unnecessary integrations

* Reviewing the website for potential security concerns

I would like a written summary of the findings, including any recommended corrections, before significant changes are made.

Phase 2: Website Design & Development

The next phase involves completing and refining the existing Squarespace website.

Responsibilities include:

* Completing existing website pages

* Refining layouts, typography, images, and navigation

* Maintaining consistent branding throughout the website

* Ensuring professional desktop and mobile presentation

* Incorporating approved written content and photographs

* Improving website functionality and visitor experience

* Preparing the website for its upcoming launch

Phase 3: Integrations & Website Functionality

I also need someone experienced with setting up and maintaining integrations as the website develops.

Potential requirements include:

* Email newsletter subscriptions and mailing-list integration

* Contact forms and email notifications

* E-commerce and online shop functionality

* Payment processing through supported providers

* Social media and video integration

* Domain and email-related configurations

* Search engine optimization and Google Search Console

* Analytics and other approved website tools

* Troubleshooting technical issues involving third-party services

Not every integration needs to be implemented immediately. These features will be introduced gradually, based on the business’s needs and my approval.

All integrations must be discussed and approved before installation or activation.

Phase 4: Long-Term Development & Maintenance

I am interested in establishing an ongoing professional relationship with someone who can continue supporting the website beyond its initial launch.

Future responsibilities may include:

* Developing additional pages and website features

* Expanding e-commerce functionality

* Updating content and promotional materials

* Troubleshooting technical problems

* Reviewing website settings and integrations

* Providing ongoing technical maintenance and support

Working Requirements

I am very hands-on with my creative projects and maintain final approval over all branding, written content, photographs, layouts, and design decisions.

The selected freelancer must:

* Work directly within my existing Squarespace account.

* Preserve all existing work unless changes are approved.

* Obtain written approval before introducing external platforms, integrations, scripts, or services.

* Never change website visibility or publish unapproved content.

* Communicate clearly about work completed and work remaining.

* Provide regular progress updates.

* Deliver completed work directly within my Squarespace website.

* Follow clearly defined monthly milestones.

I value transparency, professionalism, attention to detail, and respect for the client’s creative direction.

Budget & Timeline

Budget: $100 per month

Initial commitment: Approximately 4–5 months

Initial project budget: $400–$500

Long-term opportunity: The project may continue beyond the initial period, with additional website development, integrations, maintenance, and future projects as needed.

Each month will have an agreed scope of work and a clearly defined $100 milestone.

Any additional work or expenses must be discussed and approved beforehand.

Please apply only if you are comfortable with this arrangement.

Application Requirements

Please include the following information:

1. Examples of Squarespace websites you have personally developed.

2. Your experience with website security reviews, DNS, redirects, and third-party integrations.

3. Your experience setting up newsletters, contact forms, e-commerce, and other Squarespace integrations.

4. What you would realistically include in the first $100 milestone.

5. Confirmation that you can work directly within my existing Squarespace account.

6. Confirmation that you are comfortable with the $100 monthly budget and interested in a potentially long-term working relationship.

I am seeking someone dependable, technically knowledgeable, and interested in helping an established creative project grow over time.

Thank you for your consideration.

Common Interview Questions And Answers

1. HOW DO YOU PLAN YOUR DAY?

This is what this question poses: When do you focus and start working seriously? What are the hours you work optimally? Are you a night owl? A morning bird? Remote teams can be made up of people working on different shifts and around the world, so you won't necessarily be stuck in the 9-5 schedule if it's not for you...

2. HOW DO YOU USE THE DIFFERENT COMMUNICATION TOOLS IN DIFFERENT SITUATIONS?

When you're working on a remote team, there's no way to chat in the hallway between meetings or catch up on the latest project during an office carpool. Therefore, virtual communication will be absolutely essential to get your work done...

3. WHAT IS "WORKING REMOTE" REALLY FOR YOU?

Many people want to work remotely because of the flexibility it allows. You can work anywhere and at any time of the day...

4. WHAT DO YOU NEED IN YOUR PHYSICAL WORKSPACE TO SUCCEED IN YOUR WORK?

With this question, companies are looking to see what equipment they may need to provide you with and to verify how aware you are of what remote working could mean for you physically and logistically...

5. HOW DO YOU PROCESS INFORMATION?

Several years ago, I was working in a team to plan a big event. My supervisor made us all work as a team before the big day. One of our activities has been to find out how each of us processes information...

6. HOW DO YOU MANAGE THE CALENDAR AND THE PROGRAM? WHICH APPLICATIONS / SYSTEM DO YOU USE?

Or you may receive even more specific questions, such as: What's on your calendar? Do you plan blocks of time to do certain types of work? Do you have an open calendar that everyone can see?...

7. HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE FILES, LINKS, AND TABS ON YOUR COMPUTER?

Just like your schedule, how you track files and other information is very important. After all, everything is digital!...

8. HOW TO PRIORITIZE WORK?

The day I watched Marie Forleo's film separating the important from the urgent, my life changed. Not all remote jobs start fast, but most of them are...

9. HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A MEETING AND PREPARE A MEETING? WHAT DO YOU SEE HAPPENING DURING THE MEETING?

Just as communication is essential when working remotely, so is organization. Because you won't have those opportunities in the elevator or a casual conversation in the lunchroom, you should take advantage of the little time you have in a video or phone conference...

10. HOW DO YOU USE TECHNOLOGY ON A DAILY BASIS, IN YOUR WORK AND FOR YOUR PLEASURE?

This is a great question because it shows your comfort level with technology, which is very important for a remote worker because you will be working with technology over time...
